I haven’t stood next to the Eiffel Tower in 32 years, and I’d forgotten it’s actually a beautiful, rusty, organic brown – not black. I guess it’s photographed against the sky so the color often disappears. We loved our afternoon here. Some of us went up the tower and some of us stayed on the ground. The entire plaza is one big festival, with locals and tour groups sharing the space.
It’s hard to believe now that the Eiffel Tour was built as a temporary structure for the 1889 World’s Fair. It is such an integral part of Paris, somehow managing to be antique and modern at the same time.
One famous person is immortalized (supine) in this shot. The other famous people were waiting in line.
