Mount Lycabettus is that tall hill you can see from everywhere in Athens – even from the Acropolis. It’s the highest point in the city. It’s easily accessible via a walking path with steps all the way to the top. It was really hot in Athens for our entire visit, so we opted to take the funicular railroad service to the top rather than walk it.
At the top is the Chapel of St. George, a quintessential white stucco Greek chapel. Also, there is an open-air theater and a restaurant at the summit. There was a nice, cool breeze blowing, so we didn’t mind the sun and heat. The view was very nice – all the way to the Aegean Sea. Of course you can see the Acropolis too.
