We got to walk past the Pantheon to get anywhere from our apartment in Rome. Dinner? Go past the Pantheon. Gelato? Go past the Pantheon. Catch the bus? Pantheon! Completed in 128 AD, this is a massive building with a completely freestanding dome. No pillars. How did they do it?
The interior height and the diameter of the dome are the same dimensions. The outside is as striking as the inside, although its white marble covering is completely gone. The classical Greek porch leads you into the more Roman rotunda. Standing in its center, I am reminded of other rotundas I’ve stood in that owe everything to this building, including my own home state capitol building.
No famous people are immortalized in these shots.
