Today, I thought I’d sneak back up to the top of the Acropolis to shoot some panoramas and let the family have a quiet day, but it turns out everyone wanted to go back up the hill! So, back up we went on our last day in Athens. It was another beautiful, baking-hot day in Athens, but there was a breeze today. I just kept shooting. I think it was the heat.
The Parthenon is just so pleasing to the eye. Much reconstruction is taking place, and in spite of the massive crane, it’s just so nice to look at it. Even with the foreknowledge that the perspective is curved to fool the eye, the eye does not mind. Likewise the Erechtheion, with its enigmatic Caryatids holding up the portico.
The strong breeze made for a lot of blowing dust and sparkly artifacts on my lens. So what. I have my tripod… on the ground… at the Acropolis. Let the dust blow. I’m delighted to breathe it all in and take home a layer of grit from this place of magic.
