The Propylaea of the Acropolis, also known as the entrance temple is the majestic walk-up, or monumental gateway, to the summit of the Acropolis. The Propylaea is crowned by the Temple of Athena Nike, and is framed by a roofed colonnade. Its impressiveness is fitting the location, and what’s to come on the other side.
Like the Parthenon eighteen years later, the Propylaea was damaged by an explosion of a powder magazine in 1656. What a loss.
Tremendous views from just outside the entrance. Three famous people are immortalized in these shots – chasing shade.
