The Great Falls overlook is part of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historic Park on the Maryland side of the Potomac River. It’s an easy walk from the Great Falls Tavern Visitor Center to the overlook. The path is paved, and has some thrilling footbridges over side channels of the river before you get to the big reveal.
It was over 80° on this April day, and perfect for a short walk along the C&O Canal before the trail veers towards the river. There were not many people here despite the warm, sunny conditions. There was a pair of great blue herons fishing in the falls, and a couple of kayakers enjoying the rapids and eddys downstream, but otherwise it was a pretty quiet day on the water.
No famous people are immortalized in this shot.
