What I remember the most about this day is how I survived a hell of a lot of walking and climbing a few weeks after I’d had Covid. The journey to the top of Calton Hill was difficult and a bit embarrassing, but was worth it! The view, with all its monuments, includes a look at the Firth of Forth and Arthur’s Seat. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This is not as famous as Arthur’s Seat, but I prefer it. Go, if you can. Try not to have Covid before you go.
Looking out towards the Firth of Forth from Calton Hill, I finally get it—this part of Scotland is a volcanic landscape! I am taken back to New Zealand, though Calton Hill is much older.
