Cubs-White Sox is a hot ticket, and we have general-admission lawn seats. I don’t want to get there too late.
Maryvale, Brewers vs. Padres
Maryvale is a beautiful little ball park. We are in row Q directly behind home plate, which is high enough up to see over the plate umpire, but close enough in to see the breaking balls break. Plus, we’re in the shade all day. A welcome relief, as it has turned hot in Phoenix.
HoHoKam, Cubs vs. Rockies
The Cubs get off to a terrible start, walking many batters and committing throwing and fielding errors. The Rockies jump out to a 3-0 lead.
Goodbye Canyon, Hello Mesa
It’s a beautiful, crisp day today. Sunny, with highs in the 60s. We’ll be retracing our journey from Phoenix to Grand Canyon last Sunday but with far better conditions.
Lipan Point, Grand Canyon
Ending our Grand Canyon view in the same place we got our first view – Lipan Point. Convinced by another father and son that the best view from Lipan Point was from an outcropping involving a modest climb, we set off. We’ll see how I do with a tripod and a ten year old. Even […]
The Western Park
Our destination today is Hermit’s Rest, along the western edge of the South Rim. It’s only accessible by hiking along the Rim Trail or taking the shuttle.
Hermit’s Rest, Grand Canyon
Hermit’s Rest is as far west as we could get in the park without a back-country permit. It’s only accessible by walking or taking the shuttle buses from downtown Grand Canyon.
Hopi Point, Grand Canyon
Hopi Point is another of the fantastic lookouts along the route from downtown Grand Canyon to Hermit’s Rest. After a couple days looking at these vistas, my brain overloads and I start looking at the micro rather than the macro.
Powell Point, Grand Canyon
Riding the Hermit Road shuttle bus on our way to Hermit’s Rest, Powell Point is our first jump-off. There is a nice family from Texas enjoying the view when we arrive – they are much further out on the point of Powell Point than I can manage. By the time I get set up to […]
Grand Canyon under Gentler Circumstances
After lunch it’s off to the park. On the way up from Tusayan, there are about three cars leaving the park for every one of us heading up.
Getting to Grand Canyon
Someone once wrote that to travel expectantly is better than to arrive. Getting to Grand Canyon, Curtis and I had more than enough time today to travel expectantly. Today, we are traveling expectantly even though we don’t know what to expect when we hit the ground in Phoenix. There is snow in the forecast for […]
